¡Advertencia! Esta publicación contiene SPOILERS de The Mandalorian y Grogu
Currently showing in cinemas, The Mandalorian & Grogu is packed with exciting action scenes and connections to the wider Star Wars universe. One of the most memorable moments happens early in the film and directly references the classic 1980s movie, The Empire Strikes Back.
The new Star Wars movie primarily follows Din Djarin and his son on a new journey set during the New Republic period. However, the opening scene is a clear and enthusiastic tribute to The Empire Strikes Back, specifically the famous Battle of Hoth – considered one of the best battles in the entire Star Wars saga.
Despite all the exciting battles featuring Din Djarin and Grogu against the remnants of the Empire, The Mandalorian & Grogu finally answers a question that Star Wars fans have wondered about for over forty years, with a brand-new reveal shown on screen for the very first time.
The Mandalorian & Grogu Gives Din Djarin His Own “Battle of Hoth”
The latest installment of The Mandalorian & Grogu immediately plunges Din Djarin into a significant conflict: he’s now assisting the New Republic in hunting down remaining Imperial leaders. The story sends him to infiltrate a hidden Imperial base on a freezing planet—which strongly resembles Hoth—giving Djarin his own version of the famous ‘Battle of Hoth’.
Din Djarin is tracking down Commander Barro, an Imperial leader first seen in season 3 of The Mandalorian as part of the Imperial Shadow Council. In a thrilling battle, Din and Grogu fight off Imperial snowtroopers and disable three massive AT-AT walkers before finally defeating Barro. This opening fight is easily one of the best action scenes in the movie, and a fantastic introduction for Din Djarin and Grogu to the big screen in the Star Wars universe.
It’s thrilling to see AT-ATs in action again, but the latest Star Wars film takes things a step further by showing us a much more detailed depiction of the Battle of Hoth. A prime example of this is the Imperial snowtroopers serving under Commander Barro, complete with their iconic helmets.
We Now Know What Snowtrooper Helmets Look Like Underneath The Cloth
The snowtrooper armor is definitely one of the most visually striking and distinctive designs for Imperial soldiers in the Star Wars universe. These troopers are geared up for fighting in freezing temperatures, with extra insulation, skirts around their waists (called kamas), backpacks, and cloth hoods that cover the lower part of their helmets. Fans have often wondered what the complete helmet looks like under that fabric, and The Mandalorian & Grogu series has now finally shown us on screen.
In a few indoor scenes, including inside an AT-AT walker, viewers get a glimpse of Imperial snowtroopers without their thermal hoods. This reveals that the helmets extend further back than previously thought, and feature a completely black breathing apparatus. The movie even shows a trooper quickly putting his hood on inside an AT-AT, demonstrating how easily it attaches and detaches.
It’s really neat how The Mandalorian & Grogu has expanded on the classic Battle of Hoth from The Empire Strikes Back (released 46 years ago), especially with the exciting fight scene inside the AT-AT that Din Djarin stages to disable it. The series adds a lot of fresh detail and depth to that iconic battle.
The Mandalorian & Grogu is now playing in theaters from Lucasfilm.
