Marvel has just dropped the first trailer for The Punisher: One Last Kill. When Jon Bernthal was set to reprise his role as Frank Castle in Season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again, Marvel also announced a special presentation focusing on the character, similar to Werewolf by Night. Now, as Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is underway, Marvel Studios is starting to promote their next project, which will arrive on Disney+ on May 12, 2026.
The trailer for The Punisher: One Last Kill gives us our first look at the storyline. Frank Castle appears troubled by memories of his past and wants to retire as the Punisher. However, something pulls him back into the fight, and he finds himself protecting a young girl and her family – a situation that echoes his own painful history. I’m so excited for this new Punisher special! Jon Bernthal is back as Frank Castle, and it’s amazing that he helped write the script alongside the director, Reinaldo Marcus Green. You might know Reinaldo from films like King Richard and the recent Bob Marley: One Love – he’s a fantastic director! And they’ve brought in Robert Elswit as the cinematographer, who actually won an Oscar for his incredible work on There Will Be Blood. Seriously, this is shaping up to be something special.
Despite playing a major part in the first season of Daredevil: Born Again, Jon Bernthal is not currently scheduled to return for Season 2. The new season has featured Matt Murdock and Karen Page questioning Frank Castle’s whereabouts, suggesting he’s been inactive. The trailer for The Punisher: One Last Kill hints that, after escaping Wilson Fisk, Frank Castle had chosen to retire, realizing the Punisher symbol had inspired corruption within the police force. However, events are now pulling him back into action, potentially leading to his appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Following the season finale of Daredevil: Born Again, The Punisher: One Last Kill will be released. This will be followed two months later by the Punisher’s return in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. These three stories, released one after another, suggest Marvel Studios is building a gritty storyline focusing on the heroes of New York City and their connections. Although a major Marvel movie won’t start the summer season, The Punisher: One Last Kill, debuting on Disney+ shortly after the Daredevil finale, will provide a similar experience for fans.
