‘Mortal Kombat II’ Trailer Released as Tickets Go on Sale

Tickets for Mortal Kombat II are now available! Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have also released a new trailer to build excitement for the film. The movie, which was originally planned for release in late 2025, faced delays but will now arrive in theaters this summer.

The newest trailer focuses on Karl Urban as Johnny Cage and features lots of exciting fight scenes. It also prominently uses “Techno Syndrome,” the classic theme song from the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie – a tune now as strongly associated with the franchise as John Williams’ Superman theme. You can watch the trailer below.

Mortal Kombat II is directed by Simon McQuoid, who previously helmed the first 2021 film. Karl Urban joins the franchise as Johnny Cage, a washed-up martial arts star invited to compete in the Mortal Kombat tournament, which will decide the fate of the world. Returning cast members include Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Ludi Liu as Liu Kang, Mechad Brooks as Jax, Josh Lawson as Kano, Lewis Tan as Cole Young, and Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden. New cast members include Adeline Rudloph as Kitanna, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, and Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn. Hiroyuki Sanda reprises his role as Scorpion and will face off against the former Sub-Zero Bi-Hann, now reborn as Noob Saibot, with Joe Taslim reprising his role.

The new Mortal Kombat II film promises the intense, action-packed battles fans expect from the series. Creator Ed Boon has hinted at a tournament format with diverse fights and settings. Early trailers have showcased exciting matchups like Johnny Cage against Baraka, Scorpion versus Noob Saibot, and Raiden battling Shang Tsung. Combined with the classic Mortal Kombat theme song, the film looks like a major cinematic event best experienced in theaters.

The 2021 film Mortal Kombat was a big success for Warner Bros., becoming the most popular new movie on HBO Max that year thanks to its simultaneous release in theaters and on the streaming service. This generated excitement for a sequel, originally planned for October 24, 2025. After early screenings received positive feedback, Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema first moved Mortal Kombat II to May 15, 2026, and then to its final release date of May 8, 2026. Mortal Kombat II is shaping up to be a major summer blockbuster, currently ranked eighth on Fandango’s list of most anticipated summer movies for 2026.
