In this episode, Kramer tries to replace the cigars he lost in a fire by meeting with a group from Cuba. Meanwhile, Jerry unintentionally shares a private detail about Elaine’s secretary during a personal moment. The episode, “The Cheever Letters,” is full of small, funny details that you might not notice until you watch it again.
The Airport
Season 4, Episode 12
The comedy series “The Airport” takes place almost entirely within the confines of an airplane, an airport, or a car traveling to the airport. Despite the limited settings, the show finds plenty of humor, often with characters stuck in place. In one episode, Jerry and Elaine are flying from St. Louis to New York’s JFK airport, but their flight is unexpectedly diverted to LaGuardia.
On the flight, Jerry enjoys a comfortable trip in first class, but Elaine has a terrible experience in economy. She’s cramped, stuck next to a talkative seatmate, blocked by the food service cart, and constantly needing to use the bathroom. Despite being over 28 years old, this episode remains hilariously relatable to anyone who’s flown before.
The Dinner Party
Season 5, Episode 13
The “The Dinner Party” episode of Seinfeld is unique because the characters never actually arrive at the dinner party. The entire show focuses on their frustrating search for the perfect hostess gift while driving. Elaine and Jerry are especially fixated on a chocolate babka they missed, and they spend the whole episode unsuccessfully looking for a suitable replacement.
In this episode, Kramer and George get stuck when someone blocks them in at a liquor store, leading to a frustrating night that ends with them quickly dropping off gifts and heading home. While not all Seinfeld episodes confined to a single location are successful, this one brilliantly highlights George’s well-known annoyance with giving gifts.
The Switch
Season 6, Episode 11
In “The Switch,” Jerry develops a crush on his girlfriend’s roommate and begins to consider dating her instead. Meanwhile, Elaine gets another shot at a job at DoubleDay after being criticized for lacking poise, and Kramer assists George in figuring out if his girlfriend has an eating disorder.
This episode is memorable because we finally learn Kramer’s first name is Cosmo, and it introduces his mother, Babs, played by Sheree North. It’s amusing to see Kramer acting unusually insecure, though he quickly returns to his usual energetic self. Jerry’s self-awareness and ability to poke fun at his own flaws continue to be a highlight.
The Doorman
Season 6, Episode 18
In the Seinfeld episode “The Doorman”, Jerry and Elaine are bothered by their building’s unsettling doorman, played by Larry Miller. Meanwhile, George is still stuck living with his father, Frank Costanza (Jerry Stiller), who teams up with Kramer to invent a bra for men. Trying to smooth things over with the doorman, Jerry offers to cover his job for an hour.
Okay, so the doorman on Seinfeld… honestly, he’s one of those characters that really gets under your skin! He’s so over-the-top and unbelievable, which is saying something for a show full of ridiculous people. I wouldn’t say I like him, but you have to admit, the actor, Miller, nails the part, and he’s genuinely funny despite being so annoying.
The Muffin Tops
Season 8, Episode 21
In “The Muffin Tops,” George pretends to be an out-of-towner from Arkansas to try and get a date. Meanwhile, Elaine teams up with Mr. Lippman to start a business selling only the best part of muffins – the tops – but the idea doesn’t quite work out. And Kramer discovers someone is writing a book about his life.
Sonya Eddy is fantastic as Rebecca DeMornay in “The Muffin Tops,” and many fans consider her one of the show’s best guest stars. Her funny outburst in the muffin shop, and her strong feelings about only wanting the tops, prove Elaine was right – muffin tops really are the best part!
The Dealership
Season 9, Episode 11
In the Seinfeld episode “The Dealership,” Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer all face funny problems while at a car dealership. Jerry’s attempt to buy a car from Dave Puddy is ruined because he can’t stand high-fives. Meanwhile, Kramer goes for a test drive, and George has a frustrating battle with a vending machine trying to get a snack.
The car dealership episode is full of hilarious moments, and Dave Puddy’s return is a particular highlight. His sudden obsession with high-fives feels perfectly natural for the character, even though it’s a late addition, and it makes you wish he’d been doing it all along.
The Strongbox
Season 9, Episode 14
In “The Strongbox,” George struggles to end a relationship with a woman who won’t accept his decision. Meanwhile, Elaine grows suspicious that her new boyfriend is already married because he won’t share basic information like his phone number or address. Adding to the chaos, Kramer tries to protect Jerry from a series of robberies by stashing his belongings in a strongbox.
This episode balances all its storylines perfectly. While they don’t intersect, they all maintain a similar comedic style, keeping things consistently funny. It’s a classic example of later-season Seinfeld, and it actually gets funnier with each rewatch.
