The Punisher: One Last Kill.

As a huge Marvel fan, I was really excited about the Punisher special! It’s awesome to see Marvel experimenting with these longer-form presentations again – it reminds me of what they did with Guardians of the Galaxy and Werewolf by Night. But more than that, this feels like a turning point for the MCU. Bringing in characters like the Punisher, who first appeared in the Netflix Defenders shows with Jon Bernthal, signals they’re really starting to pull from that corner of the universe, and that’s a game changer!

Charlie Cox’s Daredevil had already appeared in several Marvel movies and TV shows before getting his own series, Daredevil: Born Again, on Disney+. Now, The Punisher: One Last Kill is the first project to focus on a character from The Defenders Saga other than Daredevil, following Marvel’s decision to re-integrate those shows into official Marvel Universe (MCU) continuity.

With The Punisher: One Last Kill, Marvel is establishing a clear path for solo projects featuring characters from The Defenders Saga. Charlie Cox successfully transitioned back to the role of Matt Murdock with appearances in Spider-Man: No Way Home and various MCU shows, ultimately leading to Daredevil: Born Again in 2025. Similarly, Jon Bernthal’s return as the Punisher in the Daredevil series is quickly followed by One Last Kill, marking his second Marvel project since his comeback and establishing a new solo venture for the character.

The Punisher’s Special Presentation Opens The Door For Four Characters To Lead New MCU Solo Projects

With the release of The Punisher: One Last Kill, we might see more characters from the old Netflix Marvel shows return to the big screen. Jessica Jones is already back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to Daredevil: Born Again season 2, and Luke Cage and Iron Fist were reportedly seen on the set of season 3 of that same show. Plus, the popular and complicated character Bullseye has gained a lot of fans through these street-level series, making him another strong contender for a comeback.

With a Punisher solo project in development, Marvel is clearly interested in bringing back characters from The Defenders Saga into the main MCU. It’s not just Daredevil; there’s potential for more. A show centered on Jessica Jones, dealing with weakening powers and motherhood, could be very engaging. Luke Cage, with his experience working for Mr. Charles, would be a great fit for a Heroes for Hire series with Iron Fist. And Bullseye, with his troubled ethics and brutal fighting style, would be perfect for a standalone special, perhaps something like The Punisher: One Last Kill.
