Interestingly, it actually ended up shaping later Star Wars stories, especially when it comes to the design of vehicles – and any contribution to the lore is a positive one.

Many Star Wars fans love finding the small, hidden details. But it’s important to remember this show is primarily for kids, and we should view it that way.

The Acolyte is Controversial but Conceptually Interesting

I have to admit, when it first came out, this show really divided the Star Wars fandom. It got absolutely slammed with negative reviews, and honestly, a lot of fans had legitimate concerns about the direction it took. It seemed like all that negativity might mean we wouldn’t get another season, and it’s a shame because despite the issues, I was really invested!

It’s clear that The Acolyte had some problems with its structure. Because the show revolved around a complex, unfamiliar concept, viewers struggled to find a foothold in the story. While a mysterious approach could have been effective, the writers prioritized ambiguity to the point that the plot became difficult to follow. To make matters worse, certain writing decisions didn’t align with existing storylines, which further confused the audience.

Despite the criticism, the show isn’t terrible. It doesn’t rank among the best Star Wars series, but it offers an engaging mystery and memorable characters – particularly Manny Jacinto’s performance. What sets it apart is its willingness to kill off characters, adding a level of realism and suspense rarely seen in Star Wars. And the fight choreography in The Acolyte is arguably some of the best in the entire Star Wars franchise.

Young Jedi Adventures Is Surprisingly Charming

While this story doesn’t drastically expand the world of Star Wars, even though it’s set during the High Republic—a time when the Jedi were very powerful—it’s a great, simple introduction to the series for young sci-fi fans, especially those with *Star Warsloving parents. The 2023 show boasts bright, appealing animation and fun appearances by iconic characters like Yoda.

Parents will appreciate the show’s positive themes and messages, which go beyond simple good-versus-evil. It’s also a critically acclaimed series, having won several Emmy Awards and other accolades. While it’s a fantastic show, it doesn’t push boundaries as much as some others, likely because it’s designed for a younger audience, which is why it ranks slightly lower compared to other entries in the franchise.

Tales of the Jedi is a Beautiful and Fascinating Companion Piece

The 2022 series Tales of the Jedi tells the stories of Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku through a series of short episodes. It’s notable for having some of the highest-quality animation of any Star Wars show.

The differences between the two characters and their paths – choosing good or evil – are really interesting and help us understand them better. It’s more compelling to watch Ahsoka’s story because we’ve already seen parts of it in earlier shows like The Clone Wars and Rebels.

As a huge Star Wars fan, I have to admit this show has a real problem. Tales of the Jedi is unique in that you really need to have seen a lot of other Star Wars content to understand what’s happening, and honestly, to even care about the story. Considering how much there is – all the movies and other shows – that’s a big ask for anyone who isn’t already a dedicated follower. It just feels inaccessible to casual viewers, and that’s a shame.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Satisfies Some, but Not Everyone

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which fans were really looking forward to, ended up being a mixed bag. While audiences excitedly waited for it in 2022, it felt like the studio wasn’t as invested, and that showed in the direction. The writing was okay, but the show often felt rushed or slowed down in odd places, and it focused on characters other than Obi-Wan for too long.

I thought Ewan McGregor was fantastic as Obi-Wan, like always. You could really feel his weariness and regret in every scene, but he still held onto that strong sense of what’s right. Honestly, the acting was great across the board – little Leia was a particular highlight, and her attitude definitely made me smile.

But the highlight of the show came after Hayden Christensen’s time playing Anakin Skywalker. After years of criticism for his performance in the earlier films, he truly impressed fans with his work in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Many consider the final fight between Kenobi and Vader to be one of the most emotionally powerful scenes in the entire Star Wars saga.

The Bad Batch Deserves More Credit

The Bad Batch is a surprisingly good show from the Star Wars prequels, and it explores an interesting part of the Star Wars universe. The clone troopers in the Bad Batch are genetically different, which allows them to think and act more independently than regular clones.

The show does a great job of highlighting a group of people who have often been overlooked, inaccurately portrayed, or quickly eliminated in other stories. While the plot sometimes felt predictable and some characters weren’t fully developed, fans really appreciate the show’s rich world-building and focus on representing diverse characters and subjects.

Because the show premiered in 2024, its 3D animation looks significantly better than older 3D animated series like The Clone Wars and Rebels.

Clone Wars Is Fantastic, but Has Naming Issues

Many people have forgotten the 2003 Clone Wars series, possibly because its title is so similar to the later, more popular show. It’s also been overlooked, perhaps because it uses 2D animation when most animated shows now use 3D, and because it was created by Genndy Tartakovsky.

What really struck me about this animation was the style – it’s just gorgeous. It’s really sharp and almost militaristic in its precision, but still manages to feel fluid and dynamic. You can definitely see hints of Japanese animation in how things are framed, which I loved. Characters like General Grievous and Asajj Ventress especially popped thanks to this style; those sharp angles really emphasized how menacing they were and made their fight scenes truly epic. It just elevated everything!

Honestly, one of the reasons this show seems to have faded from memory is its length – or lack thereof. Each episode was incredibly short, just a few minutes, which meant everything happened fast. While I appreciate the skill it takes to tell a complete story in such a concise way, it could feel really rushed and disjointed if you weren’t prepared for that kind of quick-fire storytelling. You really had to pay attention to keep up!

Maul – Shadow Lord Makes Fans Question Their Beliefs

Coming in 2026, Maul – Shadow Lord is a new addition to the Star Wars saga that offers a deeper look at Maul. Often seen as a simple villain with a sad past, this story reveals his hidden emotional side and shows that he’s a more complex character than many realized, carefully considering his actions despite his power and tragic history.

The main villain remains consumed by a desire for revenge. However, the story sometimes makes us question whether he’s actually a hero with flawed motivations rather than a simple villain. Plus, the new characters added to the mix blur the lines between good and evil, leaving us wondering who to root for.

The artwork in this exhibition is outstanding. “Maul – Shadow Lord” is particularly impressive, using a technique that looks like painting but has the dynamic movement of 3D animation, bringing vibrant colors to life.

New Voices and Stories Are Highlighted in Rebels

Although not technically a sequel or ended.

Many of the central characters, like Ezra and Sabine, were newcomers to the Star Wars universe, which gave viewers a fresh way to experience the galaxy, particularly as the show expanded its backstory. It’s worth mentioning that the series begins at a slow pace and takes some time to find its footing in terms of quality.

However, the show really shines in its later seasons, with many fans considering them to be the best. These seasons deliver fantastic storytelling and iconic moments, such as the epic lightsaber duel and eventual defeat of Maul by Obi-Wan.
