I found out about two weeks ago that From would end with season 5, and it was announced then. While we always intended for the show to run for five seasons, it’s never guaranteed you’ll get to finish your story. We feel incredibly lucky to have been able to do so, especially since so many great shows get canceled after just one season. We’re truly fortunate.
Since its premiere in 2022, From has steadily grown in popularity and become MGM+’s most-watched series ever. Unlike many similar shows that get canceled before finishing their storylines, From has been consistently renewed and will now be able to complete its planned five-season arc.
The third season finale of From revealed answers to many of the show’s biggest questions, like the significance of the numbers on the bottle tree, what was developing inside Fatima Hassan, the meaning of the word “Anghkooey,” and the origins of the nighttime creatures. The finale also introduced the Man in Yellow, a frightening and important villain who both explains past events and sets the stage for the story’s conclusion.
Julie Matthews, played by Cheramy, is becoming a key figure in uncovering the truth. Her special ability, ‘storywalking,’ lets her travel to the past and reveal secrets about the town’s history, though she can’t alter events. As the fourth season unfolds, Julie is determined to use storywalking to save her father, Jim Matthews (Eion Bailey), but her powers might be connected to something much bigger.
The show also features important characters like Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno), Julie’s mother; Ethan (Simon Webster), Julie’s brother; Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau); Jade Herrera (David Alpay); and Randall Kirkland (A.J. Simmons). This season, Julie is working with Randall on her storywalking, while Ethan searches for the Lake of Tears. Meanwhile, Jade and Tabitha uncover secrets from their past lives in the Township, and Boyd struggles to maintain order. We also meet Sophia (Julia Doyle), the pastor’s daughter, who is secretly the Man in Yellow in disguise.
John Griffin created the show, and he executive produces it with Jeff Pinkner, Jack Bender, and Perrineau. Jeff Pinkner is the showrunner, and Jack Bender has directed many episodes. The team previously collaborated on Lost, and From shares similarities with that show – including a similar creative team, a focus on mysterious storytelling, and a story about people stuck in a strange, supernatural place.
