This is when the exchange of ideas became valuable. While working on Predator: Badlands last year, the team noticed something interesting during the release of Alien: Romulus. When Dan Trachtenberg and his crew saw footage of Andy (played by David Jonsson) with the Weyland-Yutani logo reflected in his eyes, they immediately recognized an opportunity.

I got a sneak peek at Romulus – I saw an early version, and then the whole team watched it while we were filming in New Zealand. The way the character’s eyes looked – specifically the ‘W’ shape in the whites when they moved – immediately stood out. We knew we had to include that detail, and it fit perfectly into our film. I was really excited to be able to use it.

There are instances in Predator: Badlands where Elle Fanning’s character, Thia, enters a trance-like state, and her eyes resemble those of Andy in Alien: Romulus.

So, what about the show Alien: Earth? It finished airing its first season of eight episodes in September, but filming wrapped up before they started working on Predator: Badlands. While the two stories take place at very different times in the overall franchise timeline, Noah Hawley, the creator of Alien: Earth, did share a sneak peek of his work with Dan Trachtenberg, the director of Predator: Badlands.

Noah contacted us after seeing our trailer and was surprised we had a Weyland-Yutani element. He shared the episodes of Alien: Earth with me, and I was thrilled! I reassured him that our project was significantly different and didn’t overlap with theirs. Because our stories are set in such different universes, there isn’t much need for direct collaboration right now, but I’m open to the possibility of incorporating ideas or being included in their work if they’re interested.

Over the past three years, we’ve seen some fantastic stories and a promising future for the Predator franchise. But right now, Predator: Badlands is delivering the action. The film introduces Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi as a young, underestimated member of the Yautja, who must prove his worth as a warrior. It hits theaters everywhere this Friday, November 7th.
