Not every casting choice feels right – it’s hard to picture Charlie Sheen as Doctor Strange or Robert De Niro as Thanos, for example. It works if you assume audiences in 1989 would have enjoyed seeing Earth’s heroes team up on TV every week. The special effects wouldn’t be as polished, considering the time and it being a television show, but that actually adds to its appeal.
With less than a year to go until the next big Marvel movie, Avengers: Doomsday, we’re getting a glimpse of who will team up to save the day. Expect to see familiar faces like Captain America (Sam Wilson), Black Panther (Shuri), Thor, and Ant-Man, alongside the New Avengers (formerly the Thunderbolts) and the Fantastic Four, who were introduced last year. Plus, the X-Men will be joining the fight, with actors from the original Fox movies playing the roles. They’ll all face off against Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom in a story that will continue in 2027 with Avengers: Secret Wars.
The new movie, Avengers: Doomsday, comes out December 18th, but Marvel has plenty more in store before then! This year, you can look forward to shows like Wonder Man, Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, a special featuring Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and VisionQuest.
