2024’s Twisters and Its Place in Pop Culture — Explained

Lee Isaac Chung directed the film, based on a screenplay by Mark L. Smith, drawing inspiration from the 1996 movie Twister. Daisy Edgar-Jones stars as Kate Carter, a meteorologist who used to chase storms but stopped after a devastating tornado killed most of her team. Years later, her former colleague Javi, played by Anthony Ramos, contacts her with an opportunity to test a new tornado tracking system.

Kate quickly returns to chasing storms, joined by a well-known meteorologist and storm chaser who gained popularity online. The main cast of Twisters also includes Corenswet as Scott, Brandon Perea as Boone, Sasha Lane as Lily, Maura Tierney as Cathy, and Harry Hadden-Paton as Ben.

The 2024 film Twisters has received very positive feedback from both movie critics and viewers. Currently, Rotten Tomatoes gives it a “Certified Fresh” rating of 75% based on reviews, and audiences have given it a 90% score, averaging feedback from 399 critics and over 10,000 fans.

The movie Twisters did well in theaters, earning over $372 million despite costing $155 million to make. Though it didn’t reach the same financial heights as the original film, it was still considered a successful sequel.
