Talk about feeling the heat! Though Duplass has contributed to two films and a TV series in the Creep franchise, the upcoming third installment seems particularly crucial. This is because it could be the last story in the horror series. Therefore, they need to nail the plot if it truly is the final time viewers will see Peachfuzz in all his terrifying glory.
The initial two Creep films demonstrate effective found footage techniques and highlight the potential of low-budget filmmaking. The first film was famously made with only $500, utilizing a small crew of three and just two actors – one of whom was Duplass. Consequently, it quickly became profitable.
The Creep Tapes expanded the series to television, appearing on Shudder and for those with an AMC+ subscription. The show gave fans six episodes, showing even more of Peachfuzz’s crimes. Though it seems Duplass had plenty of material for stories, he explained why he’s been working slowly on Creep 3. He stated:
I think Patrick and I felt stuck after finishing ‘Creep 2’ when it came to making ‘Creep 3’. Both films had been very successful – and by successful, I mean our dedicated fans really loved them. We didn’t want to create another film unless we believed it could be as good as, or even better than, those two, you know?
It’s understandable why this is taking time. Besides crafting a story that can suitably conclude the series, Creep 3 also needs to be as scary as the first two films. Although the original horror movie came out in 2014, Mark Duplass’ dedication to this third installment suggests it will be worth the wait when it’s finally released.
As we talked about earlier, the first two Creep films are currently available on Netflix. We don’t have a release date for Creep 3 yet, so it likely won’t be part of the 2026 movie schedule. However, because the films are made on a small budget, it’s possible they could be filmed and finished relatively quickly. I’m hoping that happens!
