Viggo Mortensen pagó los honorarios de los abogados de los especialistas de El señor de los anillos

Viggo Mortensen fue un héroe en El Señor de los Anillos incluso cuando las cámaras no estaban grabando.

Viggo Mortensen is widely known for his role as Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings trilogy – The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. Many consider his performance to be one of the best in the films and a faithful representation of the character created by J.R.R. Tolkien. He’s also well-regarded for his kindness, as he took several of the horses used in the movies home and cared for them after filming wrapped.

I was so amazed to hear from Sala Baker, a stunt performer and actor from The Lord of the Rings, that Viggo Mortensen actually stepped up and covered seven to eight weeks of legal fees for the whole stunt team! Apparently, there was a problem getting everyone paid correctly, and it ended up needing legal help to fix. It was incredible to hear that Viggo personally paid those fees, out of his own pocket, to support the people he worked alongside on set. Here’s what Sala had to say about it:

We were dealing with a legal problem involving our stunt team. Apparently, around 38040 stunt performers needed lawyers. One individual wasn’t cooperating and claimed we hadn’t worked for the final two weeks of filming. This led to escalating legal fees that lasted for about seven or eight weeks. By the end, we were really worried because we didn’t have the funds to cover the unexpectedly high lawyer costs. All this happened while working with Viggo Mortensen, who plays Strider and Aragorn – a truly amazing person!

We’ve been discussing the legal fees, but when we try to actually address them, people avoid the topic completely. It’s like everyone’s pretending the fees aren’t there, and we’re left wondering if the issue has just been swept under the rug.

Apparently, someone secretly covered the legal costs for all the stunt performers, which was a surprise to us. We were told the person who paid didn’t want us to find out.

It turned out Viggo Mortensen personally covered the legal fees for the actors who fought alongside him in the battle scenes and looked after all of us on set. It’s a story not many people know, and I think this is the first time I’ve shared it publicly. That’s the kind of person he is – a true leader. We’ll always be grateful for his dedication – and his willingness to go the extra mile, even with the headbutts! – because no one else could have brought that character to life.

Throughout the major battles in The Lord of the Rings, like Helm’s Deep and the Pelennor Fields, Aragorn was a key figure in the action. This required Viggo Mortensen to work very closely with the stunt team. According to George Baker, their collaboration extended beyond filming – Mortensen discreetly helped the team members during a difficult time, offering support without wanting any recognition for his kindness.

The battles in The Lord of the Rings were crucial to the story, and the stunt work, led by Baker, was incredibly important. Filming the Battle of Helm’s Deep alone took about four months. Baker also had an on-screen role, playing Sauron in the opening scene of The Fellowship of the Ring and appearing as various orcs throughout all three movies.

Viggo Mortensen is famous for his dedication to The Lord of the Rings, and already well-known for breaking two toes while filming a fight scene – he kicked an Uruk-Hai helmet! Now, his decision to cover all the legal costs for the stunt team adds another interesting story to the making of the film.

A new Lord of the Rings film, The Hunt for Gollum, is in the works, featuring a younger version of Aragorn, but Viggo Mortensen won’t be returning to play him. Jamie Dornan will take on the role of young Strider. Andy Serkis, Ian McKellen, Elijah Wood, and Lee Pace will reprise their iconic roles as Gollum/Smeagol, Gandalf, Frodo, and Thranduil, respectively. Newcomer Leo Woodall will also join the cast as Halvard. Andy Serkis is directing the film, which is set to hit theaters on December 17, 2027.

Following the release of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Viggo Mortensen appeared in a variety of films including Hidalgo, A History of Violence, Eastern Promises, The Road, A Dangerous Method, Captain Fantastic, and Green Book. More recently, he starred in Boots Riley’s I Love Boosters. He earned Academy Award nominations for his performances in both Captain Fantastic and Green Book.
